TAIPEI INVESTIGATION: High-Tech Industry and Smart Transportation, Skillful Launch Pad for Startups and Asian Leader for Social Issues.
This article presents the results from my Taiwanese investigation, between September 2019 and January 2020. A survey study on the population, the identification of key stakeholders for Smart-City by internet research and participative workshops, one-to-one interviews of Senior Decision-makers and social network analysis. Four sources of datas crossed to draw a relevant overview of early 2020 synopsis of Taipei Smart-City.
It reveals that Taiwan has developed in a few decades a leading high-tech industry, manufacturing electronic components for the most famous computer brands worldwide, but also developed its own final products to export them in the whole world. The public transportation of Taipei City is highly effective and the EasyCard system insures its multi-modal integration as well as an access to other convenient public services.
Aside of the technical achievement, Taipei City is a vibrant cultural place at the center of Asia, showcasing influences from China, Australia and USA, where the vibrant startup community benefit from investments from Singapore, Japan, Korea, to enter the Chinese market or develop a product to spread in all Asia. Taiwan has also shown its attachment to a progressive democracy regime and the liberalization of mores, beside of quite conservative countries.
